Help Break Cabin Fever With Archery Dice by SimplyFun

It’s tough finding fun activities to help break cabin fever during the cold, wet winter months. One thing we turn to are board games, and the more educational the better!  Who doesn’t want to learn while having fun, right? Since we are a family that enjoys unplugging and playing board games, we were super excited to have the chance to test out the new Archery Dice game, one of four of SimplyFun new releases.

Beat Cabin Fever With Archery Dice

Archery Dice is truly an awesome game!  It’s designed for ages 7 and up,  but even our five-year old enjoyed this game.  Since both of the boys love archery, they walked into this game feeling very confident about their ability to hit the targets.  Sure, they are great aims when it comes to using their bow and arrows, but this is a completely different angle.

At first my five-year old did get a little frustrated. He was flicking the dice too hard and they were flying off the table.  After the second round, he had it figured it!  One could say that our family is a tad competitive and there was no way he was going to walk away without at least trying to win.

Not only is Archery Dice a fun  game, but it quickly became one of our favorite family games! Everyone that comes to the house for a visit, has to enjoy at least one round.  Archery Dice is designed to help with eye-hand coordination and strategy. My five-year old quickly figured out his strategy and walked away winning almost every game he played.  His strategy was aiming for the other players claimed targets instead aiming for the targets in the middle. This strategy worked great for him, but his eight-year old brother followed my lead and worked on aiming for the bulls-eye and the targets in the middle.

Not only is this a game for eye-hand coordination and strategy, but I also used this as learning for my five-year old.  When two dice land on the same target, the one with the highest number wins the target. This is a great way for them to learn largest and smallest numbers.  Also, they have to keep their eyes peeled. If they roll the same number then they have to yell “double” for an additional turn.  He ended up counting everyone’s die as we played.

How to play:

The game is very quick to set up which I love! There aren’t tons of pieces to spread out, so that also means a quick clean-up.  You start by putting three targets in the middle of the table. Then each player picks their dice and matching disk color.  The disk goes on the bottom and you stack the dice on top. Then you take aim and flick!!DSC_0618

The more you play, the better you get for sure! You start learning just how hard you need to flick the dice to land where you need them too, but there is still no guarantee you’ll get the target.  Like I mentioned above, if some one lands on the same target as you and their die number is higher, then they get the target.  The only guarantee in this game is if you hit the bull’s-eye!  With the bull’s-eye you get to immediately bank the target.  No one can touch a banked target!  The first player to bank four targets wins the game. Let me just add that this isn’t an easy task!  We only ended up with one banked target at the end of each round, which meant that we played the game until we had used all the targets each time.

Archer Dice contains:

16 Targets
12 Dice (3 of each color)
4 Wood Disks
1 Rules Booklet

All in all our family has really enjoyed this game! We highly recommend it to anyone looking to add more fun to family game time! You can find Archery Dice along with a variety of other fun and educational games at SimplyFun.com.
