Summertime is almost here and one of my favorite things to do is read. The kids are required to spend time reading each day in our house during break and I do the same. There is just nothing like curling up to a good book and how your mind jumps inside. Illusion by Frank Peretti is the perfect novel for Summer! First off it is a fairly long book so it is perfect for that week vacation and sitting by the pool. More than that though is the story. Peretti tells a tale of two magicians Dane and Mandy who are a married team. Mandy ends up in a fatal car accident and Dane has to move on alone. What happens next is magical. It makes you ask the question - Can Love Conquer All? Additional Information:
Dane and Mandy, a popular magic act for forty years, are tragically separated by a car wreck that claims Mandy’s life—or so everyone thinks. Even as Dane mourns and tries to rebuild his life without her, Mandy, supposedly dead, awakes in the present as the nineteen-year-old she was in 1970. Distraught and disoriented in what to her is the future, she is confined to a mental ward until she discovers a magical ability to pass invisibly through time and space to escape. Alone in a strange world, she uses her mysterious powers to make a living, performing magic on the streets and in a quaint coffee shop.
Hoping to discover an exciting new talent, Dane ventures into the coffee shop and is transfixed by the magic he sees, illusions that even he, a seasoned professional, cannot explain. But more than anything, he is emotionally devastated by this teenager who has never met him, doesn’t know him, is certainly not in love with him, but is in every respect identical to the young beauty he first met and married some forty years earlier.
They begin a furtive relationship as mentor and protegee, but even as Dane tries to sort out who she really is and she tries to understand why she is drawn to him, they are watched by secretive interests who not only possess the answers to Mandy’s powers and misplacement in time but also the roguish ability to decide what will become of her.
My thoughts:
This book kept me guessing until the end. It had love, loss, mystery, and action. Everything a good book should! I love how Peretti tied a message in through out the book with the characters trying hard to be true to themselves and to God. This was the first novel I read of Peretti but I will be picking up more in the near future for my Summer reads. If you are already a fan I think this one will not disappoint!

OK, my favorite books of all time are Alex, the Life of a Child, about a little girl with cystic fibrosis, The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, and Where the Red Fern Grows. It is hard forme to pick one (or even 3! Lol) favorites. :)
