The 5 Love Languages of Children Review & Giveaway #WIN
I recently was sent the book The 5 Love Languages of Children by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell. I had never heard of the original book The 5 Love Languages which is applied to adults so this was a new book altogether for me. I don't know about you but I often struggle to find what clicks with my kids. Sometimes it feels like we are on two different planets. Now the baby is easy, we change, feed, cuddle, and play. He is happy and healthy and I'm sure he knows we love him. The bigger kids sometimes don't feel loved. I think this book really pinpointed why. Basically the idea is each kid (or person) has an ideal way they want love showed to them. While we all need love to be shown to us in the same basic ways there is usually one way that sticks out and really completes us. In the book they call it 'filling your Love Tank'. Right away while reading this book I figured out my husband and middle son. My oldest is a little tricky because he sorta is in between two but that might be because he is a pre-teen and still trying to figure it out himself. There are tips in the book to pinpoint your Love Language if you are unsure.
Additional Information:
To be their best, children need to feel loved. But if you and your child speak different love languages, your affection might get lost in translation, affecting the child’s attitude, behavior, and development. Dr. Gary Chapman’s groundbreaking Five Love Languages series has helped millions of couples communicate love more clearly, and Dr. Ross Campbell M.D. has applied the innovative system to children as well. The 5 Love Languages of Children gives practical suggestions for learning how your children interpret love and creating a sense of security in which they can thrive.
5 Love Languages of Children Are:
There is a kid's book called The Perfect Pet for Peyton I reviewed here (there is a giveaway for that as well if you enter before 4/18). That teaches children about the Love Languages as well. You can also find additional information by visiting The5lovelanguages.com. These books are available at your local book retailers as well as online at Amazon.com. You can find additional information on Facebook as well.
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it was a simple concept yet it is eye opening to me. I like how it gives you practical applications at the end of each chapter for how to give the kind of love your child is craving. Honestly all children need and should have all 5 languages and this was a healthy reminder to apply them more for each of my kids. The book also addresses discipline which is a huge help. I don't think as parents we often have the right tools in that area. I will definitely be recommending this book to read for all my friends with school aged children.
