The Soldier's Tale from Maestro Classics #WIN

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

The Soldier's Tale from Maestro Classics is a beautiful story set to amazing music.  I know I try to give my kids a balance of many different kinds of music.  With my older kids I had Classical music playing often in the background of the day.  This cd is a great way to add Classical music to an older child's life!

The story is about a  young man Joseph who spends his life being tempted by the Devil.  Each time he falls into the Devil's trap.  He looses his family in the process.  It is a great tale because how many times do we dabble in things taking unnecessary risks?  I love that there is a lesson here for my kids.  We are a Christian household and we often talk about how the Devil would love to get a hold of their life and destroy it.  This tale opens an opportunity to see that battling with the Devil isn't a good choice.  Better to do what is right than to let him have a foothold.  Even if you are not Christian you can open the door to discussion on other temptations in life that might seem like a good idea at the time but end up being poor choices.

The cd is filled with beautiful music as the narrator Yadu spins the tale.  There is a small book that comes with the cd that goes along with the story.  It contains illustrations that bring the story to life.  There is also an instructional section at the end that gives a great lesson for children learning about Classical Music.

My thoughts:

I really loved this cd.  My older boys both received Ipods for Christmas this year.  They've been looking for new things to fill them up.  This musical story is a perfect  choice especially for the car rides where Mom doesn't want them bickering!  I always love a story that I can relate to real life applications and this has that as well.  Overall it was very entertaining to listen to.
