Moon Dough Review
My son loves playing with clay, but the one thing that we have a problem with in our house is well he is three. As you can imagine, the three year old mind tends to wonder from one project to the next and the clay and dough will get harder and harder every time he plays with it. This is simply because he leaves it out a little too long before putting it away because he goes back and forth playing with it. In the end, I hate throwing it away because I feel like I am just tossing money out the window.
Recently thanks to Team Mom, my son and daughter had the opportunity to try out Moon Dough. Now I admit that I had never heard of this product before it arrived at my door, so I was going into this little venture completely blind. I did have to read the directions and once I opened the Moon Dough, the texture was just so different than anything I had ever dealt with before.
My first thought was that this product was going to make a huge mess and I just couldn't see how the dough would actually hold shape without falling all to pieces. Well I thought too soon on this product. This was an immediate hit with my son and daughter both. When I say daughter, I am talking about my 15 year old. They were both fighting over this product and wanting to use the barn mold, hay mold and fence mold to make their own personal farm. I was very much amazed, as well as the kids were, in the way that Moon Dough stayed together and their animals were absolutely adorable!
So are you still wondering what exactly Moon Dough is? Moon Dough is recommended for ages 2-4, but honestly I am not 100% sure that I would let a two year old use it. My three year old didn't have a problem really, but because of the texture it seems like it would be hard for a two year old. It is made of an amazing new molding compound unlike anything you have seen before. Moon Dough is soft and marshmallow-like, cleans up easily and never dries out. It's also hypo-allergenic and wheat-free. Moon Dough has a few different play set to pick from. There is the Moon Dough Barnyard, Moon Dough Pizza Shop, Magic Molding Doghouse and Moon Dough Burger Shop.
It is available at Toys "R" Us, Target, Walmart, Kmart, Amazon.com, A.C. Moore, Michaels and eToys and has a SRV of $19.99 for the Barnyard Set that we had the opportunity to try.
The only cons I found with this toy is that it has a strange smell to it (strange in a not so good way) and yes it is messy in that since it never dries out and the texture of the product, it easily flakes off. However, when it comes to the mess, it cleans up just as easily as it makes. Most of the little pieces that flake up can be picked up by balling the Moon Dough up and mashing in on the little pieces. Should some fall in the floor, a hand vac picks it up super easy!
