LeapFrog: Text & Learn

Kids seem to be drawn to our electronics. Be it a cell phone, blackberry, laptop or even a PDA. They love the buttons, the sounds and a things that they can do on "our" things. Leap Frog has realized this and recently came out with a new learning product called the Text & Learn. The Text & Learn looks like an oversized PDA that fits perfect in little hands. They have incorporated important learning skills into the Text & Learn:- QWERTY keyboarding
- The alphabet
- Shapes
- Following directions
My son loves using his Text & Learn. Right now, he mostly does the letter recognition on it. He has been able to recognize his letters for awhile, however, I love how the Text and Learn not only tells him what letter to find but once he finds the letter it also tells him what sound it makes. This is such an important step when it comes to reading.
Because of the size of the Text & Learn it also travels well. We recently went out of town and my son always picks what toys he wants to bring along. The Leap Frog Text & Learn was one thing that he wanted to bring. It fit easily in the back of the seat with his books and he played with it often during the 6 hour drive. Also, with it being only once piece I don't have to worry about keeping up with tons of pieces for it.

About Text & Learn:
Text and Learn is designed to let little learners play in a grown-up way. Children can exchange text messages with their puppy pal Scout, check Scout's planner to see what his week entails and more in the pretend browser mode. Other learning modes offer practice with letter matching, shape identification and QWERTY keyboard navigation through silly animations and sound effects. Children also explore letter names and sounds. Parents can connect to the online LeapFrog Learning Path for customized learning insights and ideas to expand the learning. Appropriate for children ages 3 years and up.
